The
Uchinanchu Taikai The Uchinanchu Taikai is a rare opportunity developed to allow Uchinanchu from all over the world (the Uchinanchu Diaspora) to return to the islands to reconnect with their heritage and culture and to redevelop linkages to their motherland. The First Worldwide Uchinanchu Festival was held in 1990, and the Second Worldwide Uchinanchu Festival was held in 1995. The Third Worldwide Uchinanchu Festival was supposed to be held in 2000, but was delayed a year until 2001, because the G-8 Summit was held that year. This year, the 3rd Uchinanchu Taikai will be held from November 1-4, 2001, and the general call has been issued for Uchinanchu from throughout the world to return to the islands and celebrate our collective heritage as we envision our future.
